Our Beliefs

The truths we hold onto.

The best way to learn what Mountain View believes in is to attend our Foundations of the Faith class.

Here are some ways to describe the truths we firmly hold onto as a church and joyfully hold out to our community:

CHRISTIAN

We believe and teach that no amount of human effort can possibly earn God’s favor or lead to eternal life. Thankfully, God’s love led him to send his Son Jesus Christ to live and die for us. God offers forgiveness and salvation to the world as free gifts. Everyone who puts their trust in Christ as their Savior will be saved.

GOSPEL-CENTERED

The term “gospel” comes from the New Testament Greek word meaning “good news.” Our focus and purpose as a church is to proclaim the good news of what Jesus Christ has done for the world. As a gospel-centered church, we not only believe in it as the only way of salvation but we also put that gospel to work in every facet of our ministry.

BIBLICAL

We believe that every word of the Bible is God’s Word. We believe that the Bible is our sole source of truth. We believe that the proper way to study and understand the Bible is to let the Bible speak for itself. We do not add our own thoughts and opinions into the Bible. We do not predetermine what we want the Bible to say. We let the Bible do the talking and the teaching.

LUTHERAN

The truths that Martin Luther reclaimed for the church during the Reformation of the 1500s are often summarized with the Latin expressions sola gratia, sola fide, sola scriptura. We are saved by God’s grace alone. We receive salvation through faith alone. Our faith is based on Scripture alone.

CONFESSIONAL

The teachings that Lutherans confess on the basis of God's Word are summarized in the LUTHERAN CONFESSIONS. This collection of nine documents includes statements of faith that unite us with the Christian church of the past and summarize what Lutherans specifically believe.

OUR CHURCH BODY - WELS

We belong to a church body known as the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, or WELS. It is the third largest Lutheran church body in America. For more information about WELS and what we believe, click HERE.
